Krystel
Krystel (she/her) is still around, still funding the whole event from her (hard) earned savings, still wanting to provide a safe space for the scene to grow and inspire dancers.
She started learning Balboa about 9 years ago and has never looked back. She now teaches regularly in Canberra and has been travelling around the world to attend exchanges (and recruit your teachers) and learn from the best.
She's really thankful for your support over the past year. Putting events on is HARD WORK, and you all made it really worth it.

Rachel
Rachel (she/her) started dancing Balboa in 2019 and plans to keep dancing it until her knees give out.
In her local haunt of Brisbane, you’ll find her teaching, performing, volunteering, and yelling at the DJ that she loves this song. At the end of the day, dance for her is all about play, community and connection.
She’s best known locally for her love of Balboa and the 2005 movie adaption of Pride and Prejudice.
Despite her best efforts, Rachel’s dancing peaked at her year 6 school disco. She’s been chasing that high ever since.

Thomas
Tom (he/him), is a Brisbane-based lover of jazz - the kind that makes you want to stomp your feet, lock your turn or shake your booty. Keen to meet like-minded groovers, Tom attended his first swing dance social in 2018 and has been hooked ever since.
He soon thereafter vanished from the Australian scene to pursue academic interests in a small German fishing town. Since returning to Brisbane, Tom has been getting involved however he can, be it teaching, competing, DJing or helping out behind-the-scenes.

Greg
Greg (he/him) is known in the scene for his incredible photography, and just being an excellent human.
He took photos last year, and has been cheering for Krystel on the sidelines for years.
Greg started really loving Balboa a few years ago and Jurassic Bal 2024 was a true revelation and made him want to take his balboa further.
You will see him around taking photos, being cool, and just making sure everyone is having a good time. Don’t forget to ask him for a dance!

Katrina
The legendary Katrina (she/her) has joined our team and will be making sure everyone is having a good time all weekend long. Katrina has been dancing for quite some time now, helping with a number events around Brisbane andyou have likely seen her beautiful smile at the Brisbane Balboa Weekend amongst other events.
Katrina brings a breadth of knowledge and will help with registrations and volunteers. Don’t forget to ask her for a dance too.

Rick
Rick (he/him) has been around in the ance scene for a while and is always ready to lend a helping hand when you need it. We are excited to have him as part of our team.
Rick has helped with so many events in the Brisbane area, including the yearly Brisbane Balboa weekend.
We highly recommend having a Rick in your team: he is friendly, reliable, and simply a great human all round.
